Galina Vasilchenko and Mike Eugene Collins researhed worker's villages of the Soviet Union as an urban phenomenon evolved as a result of military industrialization and the subsequent massive housing shortage in the aftermath of the First World War. The industrialization of the Soviet Union would transform the formerly agrarian country, causing sociological phenomena such as the migration from rural areas to the cities as people searched for work. The workers village was assessed through a case study of Magnitogorsk as an example of the Workers village.
