In 2031, mankind enters a golden age of Transhumanism where augmented humans make up 70% of the world population.
In 2032, a computer virus created by an elusive group of cyberterrorists infects nearly the entire population of augmented humans, resulting in the deaths of 3 billion people. The loss of human life surpasses the death toll of every single war, plague, and catastrophe throughout human history combined. The attack and the ones that followed bring the Transhuman golden age to an abrupt end.
In an effort to combat cyberterrorism and restore order to the world, a government program succeeds in augmenting the human mind for the first time. Super-soldiers with augmented minds, called Primes, become capable of counter-attacking even the most sophisticated cyberterrorist threats.
One year later, the Prime program dismantles the last remaining terrorist cell in the world, and is deemed to be a success, but Prime augmentation only works on a handful of individuals that have a rare genetic makeup. These coveted humans are called Alphas, and the worldwide search and recruitment of Alphas becomes the next arms race between world superpowers.
