Ahmet Muvaffak "Maffy" Falay is the first solo jazz artist whose reputation crosses the borders of the country. Dizzy Gillespie said "I knew a trumpeter in Turkey who can compete with Miles Davis". He has worked with many jazz giants such as Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Ake Persson, Phil Woods, Sixten Eriksson, Bill Evans and more.
In 1960 he moved to Germany and later to Sweden where he worked with great jazz groups and giants. He is one of the first artists to try to combine traditional Turkish music with jazz (his band, Sevda).
