Exploring the concept of cultural balance, I aimed to create a piece which reflects and pays homage to both my American and Chaldean culture. As a first-generation American I’ve often felt distant from my roots—although food has always been an aspect which I feel comfortable with. I believe food is the center (or the heart) of all culture, so it only made sense for me to create a recipe book to document my thoughts and feelings.

I spent 2 months researching, documenting, and taking photos of my family’s recipes. I then spent the following month creating a fraction of the recipes, recording the process, and designing this book. Through this series of events I did not become better at cooking, but I did learn a few other things.
