My Victoria | in the Style of Nouveau

Acrylic, acrylic ink on canvas. 14 x 11in.

“He feeds upon her face by day and night,
And she with true kind eyes looks back on him,
Fair as the moon and joyful as the light:
Not wan with waiting, not with sorrow dim;
Not as she is, but was when hope shone bright;
Not as she is, but as she fills his dream.”
― Christina Rossetti
My Victoria idea started with my fascination with the Pre-Raphaelites. They were a group of artists and writers during the Victorian era that looked to the past for inspiration. What they created was an ideal history that never occurred. Their imagination created many of the ideas us think of in terms of knights.

Painting in the mediums, acrylic ink and acrylic, I kept the color scheme in earthly tones. Also, I picked colors popular during the Victorian era. Green was the number one choice in homes.

Another movement I honored in this painting was Art Nouveau. They characterize this style with sensuous curves within the design.

The eyes are the window to the soul and I wanted the viewer to feel as if they were peering inside her heart.
