The idea behind this drawing was to recreate one of Matisse's painting 'Une rue à Arcueil' (1903-1904). He had such a characteristic painting that I immediately thought of combining with another characteristic painter who also shared their interest for avant-gardes. This is Van Gogh. Trying to recreate Van Gogh's strong and unique brush strokes using just a pencil was a challenge, but it seems I've managed to capture the essence of it. Curved and irregular lines take over this piece, acompained by that reference to the moon that we find in 'The starry night' (1889). This was one of Van Gogh's latest paintings before commiting suicide, thus ending a life complicated and marked by madness and brilliance.

La idea tras este dibujo consistía en recrear uno de los cuadros de Matisse, 'Una rue à Arcueil' (1903-1904). Era un pintor con una pintura tan característica que de momento pensé combinarlo con otro pintor muy característico que también compartía ese interés por las vanguardias. Se trata de Van Gogh. Tratar de recrear las fuertes y únicas pinceladas de Van Gogh con simplemente un lápiz era un reto, pero parece que he logrado captar la esencia del mismo. Líneas curvas e irregulares dominan el dibujo, acompañado por el guiño o referencia a la luna que encontramos en 'Noche estrellada' (1889). Ésta fue una de las últimas pinturas de Van Gogh antes de suicidarse, acabando así con una vida marcada por la genialidad y la locura.
