Triggered by 30 minute movie about Will Kurtz’s output followed by his explanations and theories, I decided to create a female sculpture from used materials. Firstly, I wanted to use the paper-mâché technique, but it was Christmas time and my house was full of Christmas gift wraps and I decided to reuse them.
I followed Kurtz’s footsteps and tried to create a realistic figure with an internal structure made of used plastic bottle. The gift wraps look like a collage of colourful images that is applied in a spontaneous way to reflect the contrast between her mood and her pose. She attracts the viewers attention because of her colourful exterior which simultaneously disturbs her personally. She covers her private part and that is why her name is Bashful.
