HP Retro | IsaevWorkshop
This project is about an imagined series of retro laptops from HP company which I did during IsaevWorkshop course.

I was free about the style, so I just started to play with colors. After dozens of tries I came up with the existing palette. Then I put on some neons, and everything came to alive. Also, I took some inspiration from Florian Renner's work “Miami Nights 1984”.
I wanted the laptop to match the style but, at the same time, I wanted it to look modern. I imagined it on the shelf: it should be bright, have its own character and style but nobody would think it’s your granfather’s.

I made it raspberry red so it's very attractive itself and has contrast with other colors. The material reminds of retro fridges but is more pale. It feels heavy and solid. For the logo I used high reflective chrome material and retro font. But the appearance of the laptop is pretty modern with some curves and a modern keyboard and trackpad.
Sometimes it was challenging to light the scene. For example, in the scene below there are more than 30 light sources which I had to make imperceptible.
Here's the breakdown where you can see all the stages of work.
