HK:K: Additional Sprites ( UI and Interface )

During these last couple of month's, I've been engaged in a collaborative project between the danish health institute " Rigshospitalet " and The Royal Academy of Art. The project aimed to introduce interactive experiences to the relatives of cancer-patients, in order to make the institute's otherwise drab facilities a little more enticing to visitors.

This is a collection of the "additional graphics" that was made during the project's duration.

The game itself is a collection of smaller interactive experiences which navigates the user around the hospital, scanning custom stickers and earning trophies - that in turn could be traded in for small prizes, should the hospital decide to further facilitate such.
The choice of platform meant that we could dodge any sanitary problems that would come with installing a fixed console or PC on location, of which the staff would have thoroughly clean ever so often, to avoid cross-contamination between visitors.
Restricting the passing of potential germs between players, by making sure that they can play the game on their own device ( or the device of a parrent / relative ).

Furthermore, the mobility given to the staff by handing them the stickers, which the players would have to scan to access the games - gave the staff an oportunity to redirect some of the otherwise passive visitors to leave the overcrowded waiting rooms and nudge them in the direction of interesting happenings around the hospital. ( Such as art-exhibits, vendors or public auditoriums ).

The small games were based around rudimentary AR concepts, which could appeal to a broad audience. Particularly younger generations that fell within our target demographic ( kids age 6-12 ).

The mascot was one of the first things to be put to the table. Featuring a round feline, based on a sculpture present at the Hospital's own premises. The sculpture's recognizeable shape, as well as the interactions observed between young visitors and the installation made it a perfect offset for the face of our game.

The stickers were a key part in restricting the games to the hospital's premises, but also became one of the IP's leading appeals, due to how staff could move, and remove them as they saw fit.

Each sticker would be scanned with the player's android phone, and would then launch a minigame on top of it. This allowed the players to 'take back the hospital', and make it their own, by recognizing surroundings by the assigned sticker. ( ex. "Whack-a-mole Vendor" / " Find 7 floor " ).
