'Folklore Creatures' Linocuts

Folklore Creatures
A series of linocuts, carved and hand-printed using varying colour blends as part of the 2017 end of year exhibition at Leeds Arts University. Short captions accompany the prints to explain the creatures' identities and characteristics. Prints available on my Etsy.
Krampus
Central European Folklore
Krampus is a horned half-goat, half-demon who punishes naughty children during the Christmas season. In direct contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards good children with gifts, Krampus can be seen carrying birch branches, chains or a whip to beat the badly behaved kids.
Baba Yaga
Slavic Folklore
Baba Yaga is a witch who dwells deep in the forest in a wooden hut standing on chicken legs. She flies around in a mortar, wielding a pestle and is said to both help and hinder those that seek her out.
Vodyanoy
Slavic Folklore
The Vodyanoy is a water spirit that appears as a naked old man with a frog-like face and a body covered in black fish scales. He rides along the river on a half-sunk log and is said to be responsible for local drownings.
