Cozar directed a beautiful wraparound video projection that demonstrates architect Bjarke Ingels’ designs for the XI New York City apartments. The film, which wraps around three sides of a dark room, showcases some mesmerising animations of Ingels’ sketches as he talks through his ideas. The film was part of a three-part exhibition, designed by Es Devlin, to attract potential buyers.
This time we had the oportunity to work along with the one and only Es Devlin on a different format, an installation based in some series of projections explaining the creative process of how the architect Bjarke Ingels conceived the XI, two particular towers, currently in construction in Chealsea neighborhood, NY. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_XI )
The creative process is a mystery, the combination of ideas with infinite associations creates unlimited conclusions and it´s the intuition that marks the way, discarding other options until the final result is reached.
This piece is a representation of this creative process, an abstract vision of how Ingels travels from the first intuition and first sketches to a tangible and real creation. At the beginning we only find simple sketches, lines, traces that are gradually evolving and finding multiple variables to discover the final space.
During this psychedelic trip we also discover new actors, elements that help us to understand and locate the creation of the architect. New york, Hudson river, The High line, Chelsea, all of them are reflected in the piece in an abstract way, defragmented as well as the materials that make up the structure: copper, crystal, marble, stone... Little by little the structure conceived by the architect will be completed, however, it will be the people who inhabit the space who will complete and give the final touches to the structure.
The film, which wraps around three sides of a dark and curved room, showcases some mesmerising animations of Ingels’ sketches as he talks through his ideas. Some areas on the roof as well as some walls were builded by mirrors to reflect the film creating a very psicodelic and inmersive experience.
The film was part of a three-part exhibition, designed by Es Devlin.
To bring this vision to life Fernando Domínguez collaborated closely with the great team of MakMac who were in charge of most of the animation, lighting, postproduction and rendering work.
