Dr. Ramesh Sachdeva's profile

AHRQ Pediatric Quality Measures Program

An accomplished physician with extensive experience in pediatrics and medical education, Dr. Ramesh Sachdeva brings more than two decades of experience to his position as the associate executive director and the medical director of quality initiatives for the American Academy of Pediatrics in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Over the years, Dr. Ramesh Sachdeva has led numerous grant-funded programs and studies, including serving as principal investigator at a Pediatric Measurement Center of Excellence for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Pediatric Quality Measures Program (PQMP).

Funded by the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (CHIPRA) passed by Congress and signed by President Barack Obama in 2009, the AHRQ PQMP was created to better measure health care treatment outcomes among pediatric patients enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP programs. Among other goals, PQMP was designed to create a robust, standardized set of quality measurements. To pursue this goal, several Pediatric Measurement Centers of Excellence were established across the country, where prominent researchers and pediatric health professionals worked together to develop quality standards.

After Congress reauthorized the program in 2015, PQMP shifted its focus to refining the standards developed in the initial phase. The current phase of PQMP will also determine whether the previously developed standards are functional in real-world scenarios for providers, health care plans, and state administrative units. By testing, refining, and implementing these standards, PQMP will ultimately improve pediatric health care and treatment outcomes across the country.
