ObserVR - MISERY
ObserVR – MISERY is an immersive experience taking place in a special place in Nantes, France. The goal is to be teleported above the “Carrière Misery” in Nantes (https://urlz.fr/8EBA). There, the company “Les Machines de l’Île” will soon build the massive Herons' Tree
This experience is about time travel and how my team and I see the future, 100 years from now, in 2118! So we built the entire scene of the “carrière” in 3D putting details, sound, wind, everything that would making the users feel they really are at that place.
A cat lives around there in real life, it inspired us an interesting interaction and the poetic meaning of the nine lives of a cat. So obviously we put a cat in our experience, it comes form the bushes and asks for food. Fortunately, there is a pack of cat food so after observing the scene the user can feed the cat and see it enjoying its meal. Standing up, the scene has changed and the user is teleported in 2118. The water level is way higher than usual, strange houses grew from the cliff and advertisement is everywhere. Below is a video where you can see a demo filmed at a digital fair in Paris.
My teammates and I used Unity3D to build the scene and make it work in virtual reality. It was about handling 3D models and meshes, importing sounds in the scene and also programming the cat’s animation and the scene switching.
