VISUAL ARCHEOLOGY

Editorial
Visual Archeology is a project across several mediums. Exploring the lost and found parts of small town New Zealand. Looking at economic shifts, and exploring how these changes have affected cultural communities over time.

Through traveling the length of the north island, I collected objects and interviews from people left in places that time forgot. These findings made up the foundation of the exhibition "Visual Archeology" which took place in Wellington over the course of three days. The exhibition took people who attended on a tour around the small towns which were focused on. This was done by the placement of various different visual outputs.

- A free "zine" summarising the whole projects findings for people to take home and think about in the time following the exhibition.

- Five A1 maps with vinyl typography highlighting the areas in which the findings occurred.

- Five A1 embossed posters, showcasing the personal and specific memories people shared during interviews conducted while on the road. Layed out like a historical newspaper and pressed without the use of ink. These posters aimed to explore the connection between factual memories and the embellished ideas woven into peoples self-conscious.

- Lastly, a memory table of found historical objects, which helped the viewer to reflect on their own experiences within small town New Zealand.

I was happy that my first solo exhibition was well attended, and I feel the project was an over all success.
