"A Warm Sacred Place"

Growing up considered in one of the warmest places on the Earth, Singapore, my childhood mostly consisted of hot, sweaty days with my best childhood friend. My friend and I would run away from home at times to a place we would call our "secret garden", where thick, big bushes and leaves would surround us and hide us from the rest of the world. We would share our darkest secrets and gossips there, where we would plan the rest of our young lives of marrying whom and living where. I wanted to embrace this fleeting feeling of being enveloped in such an enchanted world that my friend and I had created from just the top of our heads. I feel that children have the wildest and purest minds where they can create any kind of environment, story, and atmosphere with such mere, small items that as adults seem mundane and lifeless.

By using specific techniques and colours that I assimilated with this memory, I tried to create the essence of this garden: a wild, fruitful, hot sacred place.
