Halloween pop! slots

art for Playstudios' pop! slots under the art direction of Roie Saltsman:
Process:
initial brief - a picking game with a haunted mansion and 15 graves.
selecting the right gravestone will power up the "magic lantern" that will suck into it a ghost from inside the mansion. this was the layout:
some concepts for the lantern and the ghosts in the mansion.
already thinking of animation and breakdown:
due to technical restrictions i had very limited texture space to work with which meant that instead of creating a regular painting i had to make several assets that would fit in the assigned texture map and could be duplicated and tinted and cobbled up together like a puzzle to create an impression of a homogenic scene. definitely my kind of challenge :)
here's a progress of the work. i started by setting up the image with duplicated smart assets that contained rough sketches and then polishing and updating it's content as i went and playing with the arrangement and color tinting from the outer compilation.
approved layout:
and here is an example of how everything in the frame was built by using the same few assets. i had to find the most simple yet effective design with the most variation options.
here's a quick mock i did for the ghost animation as a proof of concept:
at this point the feature was changed from a haunted mansion theme to a card collection game. 2 quick concepts i suggested:
and some more progress once a concept was approved:
ghosts part separated for slightly floating animation:
and a little mock up animation:
thanks for watching.
