[ a new identity system ]
An identity system that includes a new mark for the Chicago Architecture Center, a basic identity system, and prototypical applications. By studying and researching what makes Chicago architecture unique, the new mark was created to represent Chicago as the birthplace of the skyscraper, as well as CAC as an educational institution that strived to connect and teach people about the innovation of architecture.
This was a final project made for Identity Systems at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, with the guidance of Michael Konetzka.
about + mission
The Chicago Architecture Center (CAC) was founded in 1966 to save the historic Glessner House. Since then, it has grown to become one of the largest cultural organizations in Chicago. It offers tours, exhibitions, programs and events for all ages.
Their mission is to inspire people to discover why design matters and celebrate Chicago as a center of architectural innovation. CAC awakens young people to achieve their potential through the discovery of architecture.
the final mark
The final mark is based on the skyscrapers and the skyline of Chicago while tying back to the human connection and sense of community. As the birthplace of the skyscraper, Chicago is best known for its tall buildings and innovation in design and construction.

The new mark is all about verticality—this shows in the patterns in the materials and of course, the mark itself. The new identity seeks to professionally portray the Chicago Architecture Center: An organization that represents Chicago, the birthplace of the skyscraper, and its importance in the study of architecture, as well as its goal to attract people and educate them about the innovative aspect and the design that goes into architecture.
