Targeting an audience that is looking for ease and tidiness in the kitchen while also being suited to camping or holidays. The device effectively saves space in your kitchen drawers while reducing the overwhelming look of clutter.
I spoke to a kitchen novice and a semi-professional cook my insight into the problem to gain others prospective to increase my knowledge of issues and concerns people have while preparing food. Doing these interviews provided important feedback that unexpectedly lined up and guided my development of ideas and allowed me to create a strong persona.
A collection of images where gathered, discussed and picked to create a well-tailored to build up a strong persona, giving the design process a clear direction. Four main factors were explored. Routine, being busy body’s some people don’t have time or the want to learn to prepper or cook meals. Revenue, the amount people earn is irrelevant as everyone has to eat or cook. Family, cooking for friends or family must be easy to do and an enjoyment. Green, being healthy is something most strive to be but can be quite an effort to do.
The use of the persona and defined direction led the design process while being followed by manufacturing. Function came first however the outcome needed to be suited for the consumer which without the product wouldn’t be used.
The outcome follows trends of bright clean colours to help it suit the growing market. As well as this a selection of more industrial colours were chosen to help it pinpoint other markets such as camping and holiday makers.
The design is suited for manufacturing, taking CNC, injection molding and sourcing parts into consideration. Polypropylene, silicone and other food safe materials are used while keeping costs as low as potable.
