Part of the MA final show MA Costume Design For Performance UAL LCF
Synthetic hair, Nylon and power mesh, Satin
The performance explores themes of feminism, motherhood, fertility and magic. According to Ancient Egyptian mythology, Isis' jelous brother Seth cut her husband Osiris into pieces and scattered them all over Egypt. Isis grieving, cuts off her hair, casts it into the Nile and weeps, which causes a flood, leading her to resurrect Osiriis. In pursuit of the impossible, she spreads her wings. collects his scattered body and re-assembles him in order for her to conceive their son, Horus. the Project is inspired by the texts Isis: A play of Two Acts by Nawal El Saddawi(1986) and Isis l'eternale Biographie d'un Mythe feminin by Florence Quentien(2012).
The costume explores Pharaonic mural portraying mourning and funeral rituals as well as black braided wigs. The performance begins with the grieving Isis covered by her hair in the midst of these rituals.
