nachts is a photographic and textual examination of the state of night.
It is based on observations and reflections on artistic, scientific and social works and occurrences regarding this topic. By using methods of image, narration and exhibition, the project investigates the atmospheres of darkness and displays exemplary situations that befall or could befall people at nighttime under the condition of being awake.
The night essentially influences our being. When we are not asleep,
we seem to live in a different world, the otherness of which is marked
by contradictory extremes in human thought and action. At night,
the possible contrasts with the real. The aim of leaving room for interpretation is to develop a greater awareness of the state of presence and absence within the viewers and make them reconsider the concept
of reality. The ambivalence of the night, which is based on perception and uncertainty, is used as a stylistic device in order to question the stereotypical negative categories attributed to the night and to extract positive aspects from them.
