The Big Sleep - Penguin Design Award Competition

My response to the Penguin Design Award brief to design the book cover for Raymond Chandler's 'The Big Sleep'. I was inspired by the 'film noir' feel of the book and after gathering research surrounding 1940's Los Angeles, I came up with the idea of using a neon sign as a device for holding the book title. I think this resulted in a design that has an immediate bold impact and one that compliments Chandler's moody atmospheric narrative.
