Interactive Studio | Arudio and Max 6
This installation was constructed in an attempt to quantify some of my experiences. Found sounds are released from a found object upon the lifting of its lid, suddenly encapsulating the participant in an eruptive soundscape/environment which was previously silent. Closing the container, which is physically empty inside, quiets the space instantly.
Visually I am attracted to minimalist pieces and thoughtful design; however, I do not necessarily perceive the world in a strictly visual sense. In fact, auditory experience has, over the course of my lifetime, revealed itself to be the foundation of my way of understanding and navigating the world. Sound can conjure images through memory and imagination that images often cannot. This was my motivation to create a work that is simply trying to make sense of the world I'm living in. Imposing visual forms on an audience seems reductive to my desire to share my experiences with other people, and sound was a solution to that limitation.
