Lost Hill Lake, an outdoor wedding and events venue outside Saint Louis, Mo. approached Free the Robot Creative for a rebrand in the fall of 2018. Situated on 200 acres of picturesque woodland alongside the Meramec River, the venue has been a successful wedding venue for more than five years. But they were looking to expand the types of services and events offered on the property. They felt the old logo was too feminine and aimed only at attracting potential wedding and bride clients.
To combat this problem, I created a series of hand-drawn icons to better showcase the variety of services and events offered by Lost Hill Lake. The tree and leaf icon both reference a black walnut tree, which plays an important role at Lost Hill Lake. The centerpiece of the venue is a stunning grove of 50-year old black walnut trees laid out in beautiful, symmetrical rows. The new logo and icons still have an elegant feel appropriate for a wedding venue, but features more of the rustic charm offered by the entire property.
Since the venue and its services are so expansive, it was important that guests are provided with a map to orient themselves on the property. I created this hand-drawn map which highlights the most important locations on the venue.
The different icons create a flexible logo system and allows the client to use whichever icon suits their current needs or application.
