The Animation Collection

During my first semester major in Animation and Game, we were given a few tasks to practice and apply our knowledge we have gain on the principles of animation. In the quite limited time, we should submit the best result possible.
First of all, the one thing every animator should be familiar with: a walk cycle. We had to animate 2 walk cycle with the character showing 2 opposite emotions: happy and sad.
The next assignment focusing on squash/ stretch and deceleration/ acceleration is a jump. We should animate 2 objects, one is a flour sack and the other is a character of our choice.
The last assignment was lip-sync. We could pick an audio from anywhere and animate our character lip-sync-ing to that. I chose a line of Ivaine from Startdust.
In the final assignment, students learned about storytelling via a short animatic. We were given a sequence in the Grimm's brothers' fairy tale The Brave Little Tailor, from which we should create an animatic with basic sound and music. The sequence starts with the tailor setting off to his journey to the end of his encounter with the giant.
We also had the chance to attend a 2D Animation 2-day-workshop of the animator/ storyboarder Franziska Poike. With the instruction of Franziska, we worked on some assignments practicing story boarding, character designing and of course, animating.
There were 3 tasks on animating, where we were asked to animate the following:
A punch, or basically a kind of force on any object.
A character's reaction to something extreme, including body gestures and facial impressions.
A transformation of an object or a character.
By the end of the workshop, besides the required assignments, we could also attach some animations we have on our own to the submission for feedback. I tagged along some other rough animation of facial expressions and gestures.
In the second semester, we had a group assignment where we analyzed the character art of a very stylized animation or games, then designed for ourselves an original character who would fit in to this character universe. The character then should be modeled in 3D. Finally, we animated the character expressing an extreme emotion of our choice in 2 cases: interacting with another existing character from the universe and alone.

Our pick was Gorillaz. I created Andy, an additional band member who got in after an audition.
And that concludes the small collection!

Thanks for watching!
