Egypt : SCREEN PRINTING

This course was a basic introduction to Screen Printing on fabric. It is one of the most ancient ways of print making.
For this assignment I chose Egypt as my theme subject. Their rich culture and architecture, bold and unique sense of fashion and uses of classic colors for their apparel, ornaments had always caught my attention. Hence I took it up as my theme and moved forward with this project.
I noticed colors like maroon, rust, brown, red, yellow, sand yellow, gold, black, blue were the dominant colors in their art.

Color Palette :
Keeping those colors in mind, I have painted a pharaoh on handmade paper to transcend the rusty feel of that era.
To understand the symbols and motifs of Egyptian art, I had to go through their paintings, sculptures and architecture and got some unique figures. Here are some from my sketchbook done with pen on paper..

Final sketch of the design : I have decided to make a collage of different symbols and motifs and amalgamated them in a square shape box.

The final draft : I have made a table-runner using this design on fabric.
Fabric used- cambric cotton.
Color chosen- black on white fabric.

My final assignment consists a table runner, carrying Egyptian motifs beautifully printed on it.
I have chosen monochrome color for this printing work.
Thank you.
