Goldilocks Kids App and Book

Like the other apps, Goldilocks started out as a lot of post-it notes, as we tried to knock the overall idea into shape.

The driving concept for this story was to have it work from Goldilocks point of view, and from Little Bear's too. By turning the iPad around you could flip from one story to the other.

As a little experiment, I decided to build the bowls of porridge + pancakes + plate in 3D. They were then painted using the 3D tools in Photoshop.

I drew everything in my usual way; loose doodles and sketches on paper, then scanning and cutting and working over in Photoshop before colouring and arranging to be built in Maya.

Here you can see my process from sketch book to finished background artwork.

That final artwork is projected onto meshes in Maya and the whole background is built up to be a 3D environment that the story can take place within.

Animation from app. Each character or object has all it's animation stored within a single model file. Below that is the animations running in the app.

The promotional trailer for this story was a fun challenge too. We wanted some simple stop-motion going on around the device. Here's the final result.
And here's a behind the scenes look at how we did it. We even had help from Little Bear.
