Specters & Singularities
This project focuses on the development of virtual perceptions in architecture as a means of spatial augmentation and advancement of social relationships. It examines the ability to produce a specific strain of qualities that compound with traditional form, rather than serve as an explicit and emancipated effect. This is done under the assertion that virtuality has become a common outcome in many facets of both historical and contemporary architecture, not necessarily as intention, but as an almost uncanny convergence of purportedly dissimilar pursuits.

The terms “Specter” and “Singularity” are re-appropriated for this project as divergent categories of techniques that, while engaging with unreality, do not delaminate themselves from traditional elements of architectural space.  Instead, they serve as a means to further the pervasiveness of architecture. Specters are found in the perception of non-actual space, while singularities embody actual space that is imperceptible. Specters and singularities are agents of confluence and subversion, a means to add or subtract layers of experience and awareness.

This position is examined through the architectural design of a specific socio-spatial ecology. It serves not only as a means to exemplify potential, but also as an ends on which to focus. It lends itself to advancement in the agency of architectural aesthetics and suggests myriad techniques for furthering a number of architectural pursuits without resorting to the abandonment of established methods for designing space.
