Öko Skin facade for dOCUMENTA (13)

Architecture
Concrete panels manufactured by Rieder play an important role at the world's largest exhibition of contemporary dOCUMENTA (13). More than 150 artists from 55 countries present their multi-faceted artistic projects in Kassel, Germany. Der Grüne Punkt (Green Dot) and Green Building Group, who both sponsor dOCUMENTA (13), have built the first Sustainable Museum with sustainable building materials. One of the environmentally friendly museum buildings is clad with Öko Skin by Rieder.

Every five years the entire city area of Kassel is turned into a museum for 100 days. The artworks
presented include sculptures, performance art, installations, research, paintings, photographs, films, text and audio works,as well as other objects and experiments from the fields of art, politics, literature, philosophy and science.

In addition to the works of art presented in the museum buildings, dOCUMENTA (13) also traditionally features
open-air exhibitions and presentations outside the usual exhibition spaces. In the inner-city park Karlsaue
and the Kulturbahnhof visitors will find 24 exhibition buildings this year. These buildings, which are distributed across the park area and the former central station, together form the Sustainable Museum. Der Grüne Punkt and Green Building Group, a Graz-based company specializing in sustainable prefabricated houses, emphasize the need for environmentally-friendly construction. The buildings symbolize a sustainable, closed
-cycle economy, a responsible use of limited resources and environmentally compatible and climate-friendly production technology. Conceived as monuments for the "protection of the earth", the houses will be donated to social and cultural institutions, environmental organisations and aid projects after dOCUMENTA (13)
to remind people of the huge environmental problems facing the world today.

The 24 artist pavilions are used as exhibition space. The house on the grounds of the former central station
Kulturbahnhof is reserved for the famous artistic group Critical Art Ensemble with the project entitled "Winning
hearts and minds". In addition to discovering the projects of this media-critical artist group, visitors can also
discover the building's environmentally-friendly Öko Skin concrete facade. As an ecologically sound, extremely
durable facade material, Öko Skin has been very high on the list of sustainable construction materials for the
Sustainable Museum built for dOCUMENTA (13). Öko Skin is based on purely mineral raw materials and is
thus fully recyclable. In comparison with other facade materials, the production of Öko Skin glassfibre concrete
generates 40% les s greenhouse emissions.
