Interior photography & design: Colorful Kitchen

Happy 2019 everyone!

I'm happy to start the new year with a dear tiny project I've been working on last year and which got finished right before Christmas, when I also got the chance to photograph it: a colorful kitchen for a young couple currently designing their home.

Although they are creative & talented people with a flair for making their house feel cosy without any professional help, they did need a bit of direction and assistance in designing their kitchen.

Kitchens usually pose more issues than other spaces in the house, especially in nailing the functionality right. This is not an easy task when the space is already built up and the electrical and sanitary systems are all in place so you have to make everything fit all these aspects PLUS the owners' needs.

In this case the biggest change was to move the sink from its initial position (it was somewhere next to the cooktop), as there was way too little working space between the two. Having it on the other part of the counter gives them enough space around and the kitchen is now also hidden from view from the entrance by the dark wall and the fridge.

The clients requested some suspended cabinets, but didn't want too much furniture either, and the wine shelving was a must! :)

Regarding the colours chosen, the space already had the neutral grey floor & wall tiles so it needed something to warm it up, which took form in the wooden insertions in the furniture.

The dark teal/ pine green colour was selected after playing a bit around with various different green shades, but in the end this was the winner one. It's strong but pleasant, not too saturated and it gives a nice contrast with the wooden & white surfaces. Actually, this was my first time proposing such a bold colour for furniture and - what can I say - I am happy to have stepped out of my comfort zone.

Long story short, I am super happy with how this project turned out and I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts! :)

Oh, by the way, the drawing on the blackboard wall was done by one of the owners - now that's some talent right there!
