Raumplan Apartment Prototype Model Series
A raumplan scheme is one where rooms are considered in three dimensions, so spaces often have ceiling height changes and split-levels. These models are prototypes of modern high rise buildings with multiple ceiling heights, designed by Snitker/Borst Architecten/ in Amsterdam. The prototypes are part of a larger research project on the history, character and benefits of raumplan apartments.
Vortex
This design, presented as a low rise alternative, has X apartments and a total of X square feet. All apartments have a flat, continuous floor, but ceiling height is increased in living spaces. This is the only model of the series that doesn't consist of a potentially infinitely repeating pattern.

Front of the Bus (Voor in de Bus)
This model has X units and X total square feet. Each apartment has a higher ceiling height for living spaces, while some of them have a change in floor level. The working title alludes to the designs intention of having no front or back, so everyone can sit at the front of the bus, metaphorically speaking. The system could theoretically be repeated as much as structurally possible.
Helica II
This model has X apartments and a total square footage of X. It shows a condition where each apartment has a higher ceiling in the living spaces, while the floor remains at the same level. The pattern could repeat as long as structurally possible.
