Personal Project: Illustrations for a Children's Novel
Salman Rushdie's    Haroun & The Sea of Stories
A highly nuanced piece of children's fiction, Salman Rushdie's novel Haroun & The Sea of Stories builds up a layered, fantastic narrative that weaves high fantasy and magic realism together with deeper issues that plague the real world, and specifically, the Indian Subcontinent. The book which i first read as a middle schooler left a lasting impression on me, and i decided to illustrate it.These illustrations, made between 2016-18 in mix media- gouache, watercolour, ink and pencil, on cold-press watercolour paper, seek to complement the prose with a colour palette as vibrant and striking as the writing, and the artwork as full of detail as the text.
