ALBUM ART SERIES #01 - SCIENCE FICTION

ALBUM ART SERIES #01 - SCIENCE FICTION
ALBUM ART SERIES #01 - SCIENCE FICTION is a series of digital paintings showing appreciation & paying tribute to my all-time favorite album Science Fiction by Brand New.
Each painting represents my visual interpretation of each track in the record, inspired by paintings from other artists. All pieces are 11.7x16.5 inches.

This series also tells the story of The Person and Him, a fictional story I built around this series. Brief descriptions of the story's events are provided in each respective piece. The full story can be read by clicking the link at the very bottom.

This is a project that started in April of 2018 and concluded in December of 2018.
LIT ME UP
(inspired by the painting "Joan of Arc's Death at the Stake" by Hermann Stilke)
“Next in line is a man who only goes by the name Him. The People order the guards to ignite the platform below. Fire starts to rise from his feet, but his face remains calm, with a smirk just barely visible on his face. The fire dies down. Everyone is greeted with Him’s body, his head down, and utter confusion in their heads.”
CAN'T GET IT OUT
(inspired by the painting "The Incredulity of Saint Thomas" by Tiziano 'Titian' Vecelli)
"The Person pokes their fingers in Him’s body. They oddly believe that the good is literally buried within him. They dig in deeper. As much as they try, they just can’t get it out."
WASTE
(inspired by the painting "Hope" by George Frederic Watts)
"Him stays seated in his raft for a while and closes his eyes, as if he was thinking deeply about something. He opens his eyes and dips his feet in the water. Slowly, he starts to dip the lower half of his body, making it look like he is being consumed by some menacing beast."
COULD NEVER BE HEAVEN
(inspired by the painting "The Return of the Prodigal Son" by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo)
"The Person enters Him’s cell. To their surprise, he actually acknowledges them this time, welcoming them with open arms. The Person is filled with happiness; Him finally acknowledged them."
SAME LOGIC/TEETH
(inspired by the painting "The Taking of Christ" by Caravaggio)
"Him offers The Person to lie down with him in his bed. He takes advantage and starts to mold their mind, making it similar to his, with the intention of lessening resistance from them. He then starts to enter their body, giving him the power to control them however he wishes."
137
(inspired by the painting "The Procession of the Trojan Horse in Troy" by Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo)
"Him unremorsefully starts causing havoc to the town. Buildings were destroyed, houses were on fire, and a lot of bodies were scattered about. Him decided to cause pure destruction to the town, as retaliation towards The People for what they did to him."
OUT OF MANA
(inspired by the painting "The Good Samaritan" By Jacopo Bassano)
"Him picks up The Person’s body and heads for the Tree of Babel. He cups his hands together and grabs a handful of mana from the glowing hole in the roots. He pours half of it into their mouth, and spreads the other half all over their wounds. After a few minutes, The Person’s face relaxes, and looks to be in a peaceful sleep."
IN THE WATER
(inspired by the painting "Found Drowned" by George Frederic Watts)
"Him sees an opportunity and decides to just kill The Person here. He reaches for their throat, his body floating upwards. He gets closer and closer to them… but stops just short of an inch. He couldn’t do it."
DESERT
(inspired by the painting "The Burning Bush" by Sébastien Bourdon)
"Him stood behind the bush while The Person knelt in front of it. They then touch it together. Him shows an enlightened look on his face while The Person just stares at the bush, mesmerized by the flames not burning the leaves. Then the flame dies out. The effects of Kavano Amiti’s judgement will happen soon."
NO CONTROL
(inspired by the painting "Judith Beheading Holofernes" by Caravaggio)
"The Person proceeds to drown Him under that streaming pool of blood. They push his head down violently, their hands and head shaking in pure anger."
451
(inspired by the painting "Saint Dominic and the Albigenses" by Pedro Berruguete)
"The idea of Him dying no longer existed to these people, as if they were brainwashed to purposefully destroy it, throwing it in a firepit, never to be seen again."
BATTER UP
(inspired by the sculpture "Pietà" by Michelangelo)
"The Person carries Him in their arms. They knew their time was coming."
