I've seen a lot of projection mapping used in ads on tv, but never with images that I know of or have any connection to. To teach myself the technique I thought I'd try doing it to an Edward Hopper painting cause his work is so well known and great. It's also funny when people turn everything that's good into 3D to try to make it better. It's pretty insane how accurate this painting is, geometrically speaking. After doing a camera calibration in Cinema 4D, there wasn't a whole lot of weirdness I had to deal with to match the geometry to the painting. Pretty nuts-o.
Here's a quick little overview of the scene for the curious.
