a project & publication, about soccer, by Sander Reijgers & David Elshout

Godis a Player is about the disparity between the head and gut. It fuses footballand Art. Football/soccer and Art represent different strands of society. Art isstill perceived as elitist, meanwhile football taps into a scorching groupenergy, channelling primary instincts, by body language, in a physicalexperience.
Artis more cerebral, tapping into the same instincts, in a culturally more reveredmanner.
Letscombine approaches, reach out, and communicate between different strands insociety.

DavidElshout:

Alot interests me about football. It started with the physical dimensions of theplayers. Later the aspect of clan like infighting between males. Inter vsMilan, blue against red, reminds me of the crips and bloods in the US, in atoned down way.
Alsothe swooning of older males of times long past, seeking for lost youth. Somesoccer magazines contain more subject matter about emotional issues, thantechnical football content. The big fertility rites, of the star players, theirwomen and their children, fascinate me. These themes I packaged in variousballs.
70sball: The heyday of Dutch Soccer with 2 lost Worldcup Finals. Also includesother 70s material.
WAGball: About the Wifes And Girlfriends, an exchange between status, money andfame of modern day players and women.
Modernball: More subject matter about current soccer, modern players, Yolanthe &Wesley, and shifting rolemodels & patterns.
