Creative Year in Review

We suppose it’s better to come to Jesus late than never, so we here at Satellite Office wanted to thank our agency partners and clients for a great year and pay homage to the wonderful artists that produced some truly original work.

It was a year of collage & construction it seems! From painted murals for Google to three dimensional, fully functional word furniture for HERE Technologies, companies were intent on bringing inspiring, branded art into the work place. Branding was another big theme with new brand systems for Star Union Spirits, NBC Tower’s Discovery Your Sanctuary and a custom art deco bottle for Tom’s Town Distillery. Drink up, kick back and enjoy the best of 2018!

Your thirst does not slumber. It shall come upon you swiftly, inexorably. It will be undeniable. And, your case is beyond all hope. You will cry in extreme misery and ultimate despair, craving. But lo! You are living in the land of brandy and in the house of Star Union Spirits. You shall have the opportunity for salivation! No force known to man on heaven or earth can halt the still’s progress and no thirst shall go unsated as long as prosperity & Star Union Spirits reign.

Kevin Cantrell Studio & Satellite Office helped Star Union Spirits discover their beautiful truth and design a comprehensive branding system including: brand strategy & narrative, identity, packaging, print and typography.

A print & interactive campaign for signature Chicago building, NBC Tower. Inspired by the quiet cul de sac location of the NBC Tower set just off Michigan Avenue, we produced the comprehensive Discover Your Sanctuary campaign.

The campaign was comprised of 8 custom print ads designed by James Dawe, each evoking a unique aspect of the building + an interactive experience that brought elements of each print work to life through discoverable, cinemagraph spot animations. New prospect tenants will surely get the message this is one zendustrius place to work.

Prudential x Pennsylvania Conference for Women

As a sponsor of the 2018 Pennsylvania Conference for Women, Prudential offered free expert advice on financial wellness and holistic solutions to attendees. Together with experiential agency, IMG LIVE, Satellite Office curated a dream team of creative women to design the visual footprint of the brand event space.

We created four large-scale murals (40' x 8'), complete with Instagram 'See Your Future Selfie' stations, to encompass the consultation lounge themes of financial wellness, health/fitness, mental well being, and work/career motivation. Each artist was also on-site for an interactive experience in which they hand lettered custom phrases on clutches for conference attendees as keepsakes for visiting the Prudential booth.

Location data services company, HERE Technologies, tapped Satellite Office to assist with the interior branding of the their Chicago headquarters.  Confronted with a large walnut board-room table that no longer fit the company’s open work environment, HERE asked: how could we transform this artifact from the past into a symbol of where the company was heading?  Trashing the beautiful wood was the easy way out but felt wasteful. Could the table not be repurposed to reflect the company’s value system, specifically their belief in team work driving success?

We partnered with Chicago area artist and word sculptor, Matthew Hoffman of Hey It’s Matthew studio, renowned for his You Are Beautiful environmental type campaign, to repurpose the boardroom table into the aspirational message of Win Together.

Tavern on the Green

Kevin Cantrell Studio & Satellite Office created a comprehensive brand refresh for iconic, landmark restaurant nestled in a bucolic Central Park setting- Tavern on the Green. The identity maintained the integrity of the existing mark while bringing more emphasis to the name and adding a brand new monogram and typographic system.

The modular identity has the ability to scale up or down in complexity with the lush and seasonal foliage of the park becoming a more integral part of the system. Additionally, Kevin designed a custom playing card set soon to be released.

Kanyegg was hatched while exploring Kanye West as a pop culture phenomenon: G.O.O.D. egg or bad yolk? Utilizing the noble egg, food typographer and art director Danielle Evans set out to explore a complex, societal icon through an equally complex organic substance.

Seeking to develop an egg-cellent home for the passion project, we collaborated with Wix to hatch a custom website to showcase her work at its very best. The result is GRADE A site that is layered, playful and can accommodate large imagery while creating a hierarchy for the many images associated with each project. And based on the success of the Kanyegg website, we additionally developed a custom signature Wix template in the same spirit.

Google "We're Going Places" Mural

This past summer, Lauren Hom painted a dreamy 12’ x 16’ mural in the Google Daydream VR offices in San Francisco.

With this installation, Lauren was interested in exploring the dual meaning of the phrase “We’re Going Places” and utilized colors to evoke a sense of hopefulness while also using the dynamic Matisse-ian shapes to convey movement. This piece is her bold, vibrant visual interpretation of what the future of virtual reality looks like: abstract, bright and moving forward with momentum.

After developing the brand system for Tom’s Town’s launch in 2016, Kevin Cantrell Studio and Satellite Office were engaged for an encore performance designing a bespoke, iconic bottle for the brand. In the distilling world by most measures a sign of success for spirt start ups is the moment when the business can look beyond stock bottles and invest in their own custom bottle. For Tom’s Town that came quickly in 2018.

Picking up cues from the brand’s romance with Kansas City’s art deco architecture and prohibition era roots, we created a unique silhouette that rises up like a proud tower and glistens like rays of beautiful deco light shining down upon Tom’s Town.

Bank of America "Better Money Habits"

Setting a clear goal is a huge motivator to save! Lauren Hom partnered with Bank of America to do just that through the developing of a creative campaign that would speak to saving and budgeting as it relates to her own daily life.

The "Better Money Habits" social content included 4 quirky glass piggy banks, each hand-lettered to show Lauren's financial saving goal (ex. "future dog!") and fun motion/GIFs of each jar slowly filling with coins. The engaging campaign was successful in promoting Bank of America tools, and through Instagram, drove audience traffic to the BMH resource for managing financial challenges.
