The Shack (Chapter Book Illustrations)

The Shack Book Illustration
The book I chose was The Shack, by William Paul Young. It is the story of Mack, a guy  that went into a crisis of faith and a deep depression after the tragic death of his youngest daughter Missy. Soon, he receives a mysterious letter that sends him to an abandoned shack where he spends the weekend with God. Through this meeting, Mack finds important truths that will transform his understanding of his tragedy and change his life forever.

The sequence is the Coloring Book,Mailbox, and then The Shack.
His daughter gets kidnapped while coloring, and all that was left was a ladybug pin.
He receives a letter from God and is asked to go to the shack
The shack is what it looks like after it is transformed into the spring like enviorment and this is where he spends the weekend with God.

After looking at references photos, I lightly sketched the shack, paying close attention to the details from the book. It was hard to create the shack because it transforms from an abandoned shack in winter to a beautiful cabin in spring. I then sketched the mailbox and coloring book, and then tracing it over with tech pen and added shading where it was needed.
