Lumpy Dog (picture book)

Lumpy Dog is a children's picture book that I developed over the course of a month in my Picture and Word class at RISD. The idea of Lumpy Dog stemmed from an object I was given as a prompt, a lumpy little ceramic teacup, the texture of which was the inspiration for Lumpy's earliest designs. When writing this book, I knew I wanted to make a story about the importance of diversity, of self-acceptance, and kindness to the people in your life. While I don't necessarily believe that pedigreed dogs vs. mutts is a particularly suitable allegory for discrimination which happens between groups of human beings, I hope that the message of accepting everyone for own their unique talents will ring true to readers. Also, who doesn't like a story about dogs!
