The Classic of Mountains and Seas, or Shanhai-Chin, is an ancient
Chinese book that records ancient Chinese spirits and animals. The
animals in the book have always been considered fantastical and
mythological.
From the illustrations I drew for the spirits and animals recoded in
Shanhai-Chin, I noticed some pattern of lines resembling the shapes
and curves of the Latin alphabet letters. Those pattern of lines are the
source of inspiration for this typeface design.
I created illustrations for some of the spirits and animals described in
the book, with my own imagination from the text. While creating those
illustrations, I also found inspiration for an English typeface design.
