When designing the logo for the pet cremation business, I wanted to be respectful; I did not want to upset the fictional clients who already were dealing with enough grief. I found that with the use of a cloud symbol, I could gently hint to a doggie heaven or afterlife without focusing on the death of the pet. I started with the silhouette with the dog and used negative space to show a hint of a cloud. I then tried to create a dog's face from the negative space made from a cloud like how some people look for shapes in the clouds. I found that these designs were too simple and did not have enough personality so I began to look for inspiration for a new style. I found an outline style that had a few breaks in the pattern and developed my logo off that style.
For the final logo, I added more dots, broke up the lines a bit more, and added a nose to the dog to add more complexity. I also thickened the stroke of the dog's body to make it stand out. I choose light blue, white, and a dark cobalt blue because blue and white colors are typically connected to clouds in the sky. In certain parts of the packaging, I have the logo blue on white, and in other areas the logo is white on blue because I wanted to have different alternative versions that worked together. I tried different lockups for the type, but finally decided to place the type below the logo.I choose the font Comodo because I liked how it emulated the curves and rounded edges in the design. I tried the gotham font in a rounded font style, but the font seemed just a bit too uniform and dull so I choose Comodo because it was just a bit more unique.
