Doom Joint Illustration Project With Caliber Creative For The Collective Brewing Project

Being an illustrator, as you might guess, one of my favorite things to do is draw.

I carry a small sketchbook with me at all times. When I find myself with time to spare, I fill that sketchbook with images of rare animals, icons and miscellany. It is my personal space to do with what I please — a place for recording inspiration, for experimenting and for pouring out emotions. At times, I’ll share these rough and rambling sketchbook pages with friends and followers on social media.

Imagine my excitement and surprise when Caliber Creative contacted Sheila with Those Three Reps asking specifically for a series of illustrations created in my experimental sketchbook style.

The project was a series of beer labels based loosely on a doomsday concept. There were to be three characters in the series: a monster, a warrior and a trusty steed. Other than that, the client asked me to run with it. He wanted me to reach inside of my brain and pour out the crazy, creative ideas that lived there.

I created the three illustrations using pen and ink. Caliber Creative then added color and texture to the pen and ink illustrations, creating an awesome punk style. The process was a wonderful thrill ride — for both me and for the client. The resulting illustrations wound up being some of my very favorites — fantastical, tough, dark and, in the client’s words, “bad a**!” Perfect for a series of creative and non-conventional craft beer.
