Exercise 1: The Dynamics of Structure
For this first exercise, we used graphite pencils to layer shapes while showing contrasts between light and dark shades of grey.
Exercise 2: Expressive Use of Line
For this exercise, we design a variety of lines and create a unique piece of artwork using bold markers.
Exercise 3: Introduction to Illustrator CC & Typography
The third exercise, we veered away from traditional drawing and used Adobe Illustrator to create both a symmetrical and an asymmetrical design based on a letter of our choosing.
Exercise 4: Typography & the Principle of Emphasis
The fourth exercise, we used Adobe Illustrator to create a unique design using the first letters of our first and last names within a geometric shape.
Project #1: Chromatic Value Scale
For the first project, we used gouache paint to make a chromatic scale, ranging from white to black, and includes a variety of tints and shades of a single hue, such as red or blue.

For my first attempt, I made a scale of tints and shades of the color red.  When that did not work out, I tried again, this time with tints and shades of blue, which improved.
Project #2: Monochromatic & Asymmetric Design

For the second project, we utilized our chromatic value scales to paint a single geometric shape while creating an asymmetric design of tints and shades, giving it more three-dimensional depth.
Project #3: Original Design with Emphasis
For the third project, we draw two of the same original design, one painted with complementary colors (blue & orange) and analogous colors (red, red-orange & orange).
