Stockholm Christmas Illustration
This autumn I created Christmas illustrations about Stockholm for a good local project www.walkstockholm.com. It's a private guide Ira Stomberg, who organises original tours in Stockholm in Swedish, Russian, English and Hebrew. Ira asked me to design the illustrations of the Christmas city and traditional Swedish "fika". Finally we printed the postcards.
All November and December she was presenting them to her visitors.
Traditional Swedish Christmas "fika": kannelbullar, lucia bullar, pepparkakor (gingerbread) ang glögg (mulled wine).
The oldest square in Stockholm - Stortorget, Gamla Stan
Kornhamnstorg - another square in Old Town
I always start from a chalk sketch, because chalk is easier to erase or edit.
All illustrations are painted on chalkboards. People often ask me, why do I prefer chalkboard, not an ordinary pastel paper. Chalkboard gives an opportunity to edit artwork, to mix and shade chalk, charcoal and soft pastels.
The size of chalkboard is also very important: the bigger the surface is - the more details you can add.
