Brexit | Typographical Poster

This project that began in early December was based around the idea of designing a typographical poster that would poke fun at the many bitter political tensions between Britain and the European Union, tensions themselves that are based around the on-going Brexit trade deal negotiations, by the way of a visual metaphor that portrays Brexit itself as an entity in dire need of help and support.

As you will see, this idea has been carried out by displaying Brexit as an object that requires, much like the cargo/package visual metaphor it depicts, a substantial amount of planning and methodical execution being left to dangle by the support of only one remaining wired hook. In effect, this reflects the constantly reported failing state of the trade deal, and the negative outcomes that are predicted on a daily basis by both researchers, and actual members of parliament.

Other details to support this visual metaphor include the European Union itself acting as an onlooker, alongside some of the many stars that are also used within the union’s respective flag, showing very little sympathy for the situation and instead offering somewhat of a more sarcastic and half-interested style of response.

Also included, in terms of background content, are electrical wires, warning lights that flash in the colour red, and a verbal directory sign that signifies the distance between the intended goal of the trade deal negotiations, and the actual current state of the overall withdraw process.

The display mockup for the final outcome places the design itself into a black frame that is then rested up against a wall that shares a similar colour to the dominant colour of the finished poster. This helps ensure that both elements blend together in a calm yet formal manner that isn’t too distracting, or make one seem out of place from the other.
