These letters are meant to capture Alexander Calder’s use of color, movement and geometry. After sketching I started to build with paper, realizing that the medium was perfect for building bold, 3D forms. I used card stock, hot glue and an X-acto knife to build the shapes.
Once created, I photographed the letters from various angles, playing with shadow and position. I began by placing the forms in a line, which felt too restrictive. I then tilted the letters allowing them to interact with one another. I brightened and perfected the final photo in Photoshop.
