Kera Cosmetic Package

Kera Cosmetics
Packaging design for natural cosmetic products and identity design for the skincare company Kera.  The name Kera is derived from "keratin," a substance found in the epidermis of skin. The name is also similar to the word "care," and a female name—all of which implies the target audience and what the company stands for.

Kera’s goal is instead of influencing people to cover their "blemishes," to instead encourage them to embrace their complexion and its unique "marks." The metaphor is the markings of butterfly wings (well known for their unique beauty). The butterfly was hand-drawn and its spots were echoed with small dots that surround its wings and move across the package, symbolizing the exfoliating action that cleanses pores and removes dead skin cells. It also implies a sparkle effect, demonstrating the "magic" of the product, creating intrigue and a dramatic shelf presence.
The two varieties designed are activated charcoal and pink clay based. The dramatic black colour of charcoal and soft pink of the clay were applied to the package background, while the butterfly images were ink-illustrated to match the attributes of each product.
Each butterfly was chosen to match the properties and story of the products.
