Project Hypnos is an experience based on sensory exploration around the theme of Lovecraft. The game immerses you in a dreamlike simulation in which you will have to discover the mysteries of this strange place with your senses only.
In Greek mythology, Hypnos is the god of sleep and a creature of the lovecraftian bestiary also known as the Lord of Sleep. From this point, we wanted to design a world in which dream and strangeness would be at the heart of the desired experience.
This game is part of an ARG (alternate reality game) called "The Inverted Lighthouse" which is an interactive online storytelling that uses the real world as a collaborative investigation platform. The ARG uses a transmedia narration to deliver a story that can evolve and progress according to players' actions.
Project Hypnos has been designed to disrupt the codes of exploration in video games. The objectives to be achieved are related to heartbeats through vibrations of the gamepad. The closer you get to the goal, the more intense the pulsations will become.
My challenge as game artist/designer was to define an immersive universe through the representation of the dream. The player evolves within a mystical forest while contemplating an ocean in the skies, with an inverted ancient lighthouse.
In adequacy with the level design, I realized the world building and the staging of key places, the VFX, lighting and post-processing as well as the global visual identity.
