Austin Run - Logo and Brand Identity System Design

Austin Run logo, design number 7 from my 30 Logos Challenge – designing one logo per day for 30 days.

I wanted to incorporate the identity of Austin into the logo design. I did some online research and though about ideas around the Texas flag or the shape of the state.

I sketched an idea of a trainer in the Texas flag colours. The trainer could also have a star on the side similar to a famous brand of trainer. The idea needed further refinement, especially since the brand it resembled are not well known for running shoes.

An idea formed from the previous sketches of having the “Austin Run” text be inside of or make up the shape of the trainer. This would be done in a loose freehand style so each letter could be bent and stretched to suit.

The first draft of the text inside the trainer was created as a vector. It was drawn free hand in Illustrator.

I experimented in Illustrator with making the text create the shape of the trainer with no outline. The effect is interesting but not clear enough for the final design.

The red white and blue colours were incorporated into the design. The A was filled in and a white star from the flag design placed inside as the hole. This was repeated for the R with an arrow shape to signify running, moving forward and progressing.

The final logo design included a backdrop which could become an identity system using the Texas flag colours along with the repeating white stars and arrows.
