Broad St Grow Center

The second project I worked on was concentrated on converting an abandoned synagogue in the south of Providence RI to a central spot for the community. Our mission was to create a better way for the community to access local food. With ideas of affordable food, agriculture education, afterschool programs and community I have created a program that would benefit the community with employment and education. The main focus will be on a youth oriented leadership program; the students will be taught about running a non profit organization, urban agriculture and organizing community events.
On the first floor there would be a classroom that can also be used for small community meetings. In the main space a food court would be located with the option to be used as a large community space for musical evens. In the small room on the south wall a mushrooms would be grown.
On the second floor is a retail store that could be used as a Farmers Market. Outside there will be a small flower and berries garden with the urban bee keeping space.
On the third floor there is administrative space with extra storage space.
In the attic the green house will be located.  It rise right out of the roof to get maximum sun exposure.
