Onda Cafe & Bakery, LA
The Onda Cafe & Bakery opened in 2014 as the Blue Crew Coffee Company. As the company moved forward, they realized they needed to head in a new direction to become a successful cafe in Los Angeles. Their previous brand was approachable but predictable, and wasn’t achieving the brand goals to get them where they needed to be. We developed a new name, brand, logo, and experience that could be cost-effective yet timeless in every way. The new direction helped bridge the gap between dreams and reality, and allowed for a new and exciting brand experience.
Onda, translating to vibrations; vibes, in Spanish slang, pulls from the owners hispanic heritage and a nod to her family. I developed a new design direction utilizing the brand’s New England beginnings and the Art Deco trends that are reminiscent of east coast success and finessing it enough to work in the west coast environment. The brand resulted in a fresh, unique take on the LA cafe culture that hasn’t been utilized often.
The wordmark logo is a custom typeface that showcases sophisticated elegance and yet fits into recent design trends that have been popular and effective in young adult cafe-goers.
To create a timeless and sophisticated brand that paired New England charm with West-Coast character. The resulting onda, or vibe, was a small haven in the midst of the infamous LA intensity. By harnessing that untapped East-Coast vibe in Los Angeles, we could offer an extremely unique experience that young adults could flock to.
