Design/Modeling/Animation/Rendering
These are some of the visual researches I made for a game project. I first started by using some assets I had created (Fig.1) but I quickly realized that most people couldn't see past the architecture style and were criticizing it because they were not the type of buildings they were expecting. As a result, the "clients" were not paying enough attention to the actual rendering style which was the main focus. So I took nondescript elements and arranged them to create abstract structures, which, in the end, pleased everyone... Including myself!
The main idea was to try an approach that took its inspiration from the world of Graphic Design rather than the usual "illustration" or "photo realistic" styles that most games go for.
The interesting aspect was that because the game was not aimed at "retail" distribution but Online distribution and survey data shows that online games are more successful when they stray away form the established " visual codes" of gaming, the client was willing to try something else and kept a very open mind on the different looks I presented, even the more extremes like these.
